The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
