The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:

  • Each team has just eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
