Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United just seven months after instigating insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds concluded through agreement in August.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading insulting chants about Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to pull his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Past Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder

Both men had a past before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

All appears has been resolved with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
