Hulu is Developing a Far Cry TV Series from the Minds of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The latest action-packed title that players experienced was Far Cry 6, that starred Giancarlo Esposito as the antagonist, Antón, and came out on October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is known for embracing violence and insanity with similar glee, all while presenting engaging, ideologically themed narratives. It’s no surprise that the network’s new order for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two creators whose work have exemplified all of those elements.
About the Series
Inspired by Ubisoft's hit video game franchise, the limited anthology series will be available on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The series will also follow the video games' format by having a fresh setting and group of personalities in subsequent series.
Creative Minds
Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as lead producers on the series under their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed excellent collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are working together for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will present this story in a way that is original, compelling, and incredibly entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our associates at Ubisoft for trusting us with this popular property.”
What’s Next
Mac will also feature in the show, but at the time of writing, we have no details on what role that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for a second instalment, with FX and Disney signing a new comprehensive agreement with the producer.
“Being able to collaborate alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally supportive, trusting us with one of the most renowned video-game universes ever created. And through it all, my FX team continues to lift me up with their constant belief and assistance.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology series. Each game is a interpretation of a theme, the same way every series of Fargo is a version on a theme,” noted Hawley. “To develop a big action show that can evolve from one instalment to the next, while always exploring the essence of people through this multifaceted and turbulent perspective, is a dream come true. I’m excited to collaborate with Rob and introduce our common irreverent, daring style to the audience.”
A schedule for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
