HBO's It Spinoff Premieres Episode Two Ahead of Schedule on HBO Max

Fans are eagerly awaiting for the horror series Welcome to Derry, that's been garnering praise and weaving in elements from the broader King universe. Now, the broadcaster declared that episode two will debut sooner than expected, scheduled ideally for October 31st.

Early Release Information

Starting on October 31 at midnight PT, the second episode of Welcome to Derry will premiere on the streaming service, prior to its Sunday HBO premiere. The remaining installments of the series run will continue to air on Sunday nights on HBO and HBO Max, building toward the season finale on December 14th.

Show Background

Taking place within the Derry mythology, the new series is inspired by King’s iconic novel while enlarging the universe brought to life by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The first It movie centered on young characters confronting supernatural evils, so it’s fitting that this show upholds that legacy. However, the debut of HBO’s Welcome to Derry shows it set out to raise the stakes, offering even more intense scares than the cinematic versions and setting a brutal tone for the upcoming episodes.

Premise and Ideas

Taking place in the 1960s, the program presents a fresh cast of grown-ups and kids living in a apparently peaceful community concealing a sinister core. Derry operates on a cruel, recurring cycle—characterized by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence returns every 27 years. Although the series might sound like it skews too close to the movies initially, what distinguishes the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the perspectives of kids and grown-ups concurrently. Children stay especially susceptible to the monster's horror, but older characters also face dealing with their personal demons arising from the town's ingrained prejudice and covert otherworldly powers.

It: Welcome to Derry debuts on Halloween at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
