Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the playing area early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg after the final ball in his spell during the morning session.

The England team stated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The series decider in this Ashes battle at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

England have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of teammates to get into double digits.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he resumed for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a variation to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
