Match Preview
A whopping two 3:00 PM matches in the Premier League has me questioning what has occurred to this country. At least they are both matches with significant interest.
West Ham United make a trip via the Overground from Stratford to Highbury and Islington for Nuno Espírito Santo’s second game in charge of West Ham. Arsenal earned a comfortable win in the week’s match and seem resilient. Taking into account Nuno’s style for practical play and the Arsenal boss’s emphasis typically involving control instead of creativity, this may become a defensive battle. This could be decided by if West Ham can handle the home side’s free kicks and corners.
Might the drama unfold at the Theatre of Dreams as successful Sunderland take on underperforming Manchester United? the manager’s dogmatic thought experiment in a three-five-two setup looks increasingly like failing to deliver, a further loss could likely trigger another round of boardroom meetings from the Ineos brains trust. Sunderland created surprise at the City Ground last weekend and have gone about their EPL promotion with greater determination than newly promoted teams in the past years.
Elsewhere, Boro will probably need a win at Portsmouth to return to the league leadership as Coventry are ahead at Sheffield Wednesday. The Robins versus the Hoops is one more game that draws attention in the EFL Championship.
There’s an intriguing local rivalry in League One where Stevenage welcome the Hatters, with the home side in a position to surpass Bradford to lead the table with a win. In the fourth tier, the Saddlers and the Ammies will be looking to move up the league with the early pacemakers, the Gills and the Robins, playing now.
Internationally, I’ll also be keeping an eye on BVB’s clash with Leipzig.
