Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with results this poor.”

Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
